Where to shop in Tunis?

Medina

Medina of Tunis is located in the heart of Tunis and happens to be one of my favorite places in Tunis. The old Medina is a combination of maze-like streets, hundreds of souks ( little boutiques), palaces, mosques, cafes, and restaurants. Definitely, worth-visiting when in you are in Tunis.

Wander around the narrow streets and enjoy the joyful atmosphere. This is also a perfect place to buy souvenirs! The souks are filled with beautiful hand-made Tunisian products such as carpets, poufs, fabrics, spices, pastries, leather products, jewelry, and clothes. Read my previous post about the 13 products to buy from Tunisia if you need some inspiration. Most importantly, don’t forget to bargain when buying something. I know that bargaining might feel a bit unpleasant if you are not used to it, but it’s a part of Tunisian culture, so go for it!

Still a couple of handy tips before heading to Medina! The best time to visit the Old Medina of Tunis is in the morning as there are fewer people, and the temperature is more pleasant. During the daytime be prepared for a crowd, and the weather might be unpleasantly hot. In addition, most of the shops are closed on Sundays and Friday afternoons. It’s also good to know that this area is empty in the evenings.

Sidi Bou Said

The charming town Sidi Bou Said is another popular tourist attraction in Tunisia. Sidi Bou Said is known for blue and white houses, cobblestoned streets, and small art galleries.

It’s good that Sidi Bou Said isn’t filled with too many stores and thus managed to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. But you will find little boutiques selling colorful ceramics, paintings, and rugs.

On my every visit to Sidi Bou Said, I like to go homeware and furniture store Rock the Kasbah. The store sells products designed by designer Philippe Xerri. All the products are a beautiful combination of traditional Tunisian craftsmanship and chic-Mediterranean style. Even if you are not planning to buy a sofa to take home, I highly recommend visiting this showroom-like store in a stunning old building. For now, visit the Rock the Kasbah website to see what I am talking about.

Avenue Habib Bourguiba

Avenue Habib Bourguiba is a commercial street located in the city center of Tunis. Go to Avenue Bourguiba if you are looking for usual international brands such as Zara, Bershka, Aldo, Stradivarius, Pull & Bear, and LC Waikiki. Note that the prices are at the same level as in any other European country.

The old Medina can be found nearby at the end of the street. In addition, tourist attractions such as Bab El Bhar and the Clocktower are very close by. Many restaurants and cafes are located on Avenue Habib Bourguiba. I recommend trying Le Grand Café du Theatre which serves coffee and food.

Shopping in Tunis

Shopping malls in Tunis

Below I have listed Tunis’s best shopping malls and centers, where you can find all the stores, restaurants, and cafes under one roof. One thing I like about malls in Tunis is their size. In the malls, you have plenty of shopping options, but these are not large as American-style shopping centers, where you might get overwhelmed with all the options.

Tunisia Mall - shopping in Tunis

First, on the list, I had to place my own favorite Tunisia Mall. The Tunisia Mall is located in the elegant area of Les Berges Du Lac 2. The mall opened its doors in 2015 and has over 80 shops, restaurants, and cafes. The selection of shops includes clothing stores like Zara, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Pull & Bear, Nike, and Lufian, and beauty shops Inglot, Amarante, and Fakher Beauty Nails. In addition, also homeware, technical stores, and supermarket Carrefour.

The Tunisia Mall can be easily reached by taxi, but they also have a large parking lot. The area Les Berges Du Lac has many good restaurants and cafes if you don’t feel like eating in the mall.

Azur City

Azur City Mall is one of the newest and largest shopping centers in Tunisia. Located about 13km away from the Tunis city center. Azur City has more than 100 stores, restaurants, cafes, and a cinema with eight halls. I recommend choosing Azur City if you want to spend a day just shopping.

Central Park

Central Park is a great option for you if you are looking for a shopping mall in the Tunis city center. The mall isn’t the newest or biggest, but the location is right by the commercial street Habib Bourguiba. There are stores like Lufian, Mango, Celio, and Springfield. In addition, you find a store Orange that sells, for example, sim cards if you need one for your stay in Tunis.

Tunis City Mall - shopping in Tunis

Tunis City Mall is located about 30 minutes car ride, 20km from Tunis city center. The Tunis City Mall has more than 80 stores, fast food restaurants, a huge parking lot, and a large supermarket. Besides clothing(Zara, Guess, Mango, Aldo, Benetton), lingerie, sport, beauty, and jewelry stores. You find services like mobile operator, post, bank, pharmacy, dry cleaning, and playground.
