Are you planning to spend 3 days in Tunis and looking for the best things to do? Tunisia and its’ capital Tunis are absolutely fantastic travel destinations. In order to help you plan your stay, I created three itinerary options to spend 3 days in Tunis. So, why do I like Tunis so much? I love Tunisian food. I don’t mind either fabulous sunny weather or affordable prices. But the most important thing of all is the authenticity of Tunis. This city makes me feel that I am in Tunisia. Often popular holiday destinations lose their authenticity and become one of the many stereotypic tourist destinations. So are you ready to get lost in this beautiful city, fill your days with Tunisian hospitality and delicacies, and forget Mc Donalds and Starbucks lattes for three days? Let’s start!

what to do Tunis three days

3 days in Tunis - The perfect itinerary 2023

I made three itinerary options as one plan doesn’t fit all. The first option is for foodies who want to discover Tunisian food culture, from delicious street food to the best restaurants in the city. Of course, fancy cocktails will give a great ending to the evenings. The second itinerary is for a cultured person who enjoys museums, art, and history. And the last option is everything about dancing, drinking, and shopping. Of course, feel free to mix and match the itineraries according to your own preferences.

Nr. 1 itinerary - for foodies- 3 days in Tunis

This 3 days in Tunis itinerary is for foodies. So, if you are interested to discover Tunisian cuisine a little bit better, this itinerary is for you.

Day 1 - 3 days in Tunis

The first day of this three days journey will start in the old Medina of Tunis. I recommend starting your day already in the morning. And what would be a morning without coffee? Multiply cafes are located in Medina, but a perfect spot for you is a Panoramic cafe where you can enjoy your coffee with a stunning view over Tunis. Continue walking around maze-like streets, and find a Makroudh seller. Makroudh is a semolina-based pastry flavored with blossom water and filled with date, fig, or almond paste. Lastly, fried in oil and soaked in syrup. Freshly made and warm Makroudhs are super delicious and worth the try!

It’s time to eat traditional Tunisian food. Medina is filled with amazing street food vendors, and you can easily have a delicious and affordable lunch. Another great option is to choose to eat in Fondouk El Attarine or Dar El Jeld. These two are high-quality restaurants that serve traditional Tunisian food. Start your lunch with briks followed by the Tunisian national dish couscous.

I bet you reached thousands of steps today, and I suggest having a relaxing evening in Villa Didon. It’s advisable to dress a little bit better clothes before heading to Didon. Enjoy a full menu with a starter, main course, and dessert or a glass of Chardonnay. The menu contains Mediterranean dishes, especially French cuisine. You have the option to dine outside, where you can enjoy a panoramic view. And just like that, the first day is done!

Day 2 - 3 days in Tunis

Welcome to start the second day. This is going to be a fun one! The day begins in the city center. Like yesterday, also this day starts with a coffee. With so many cafés, choosing which one to visit might be challenging. Le Grand Café du Theatre is located on the main street of Habib Bourguiba. It’s an excellent spot for fresh espresso and to enjoy the bustle of the city.

Let the eating begin! This day is everything about street food. Hopefully, you are hungry, as there are plenty of delicious dishes to try. Many street food vendors are located in the capital. If you are looking for inspiration, here is a list of 10 street food to try in Tunisia. Try at least Slata Mechouai – grilled green pepper salad, Keftaji – grilled vegetables smashed with fried egg, Brik – crispy pastry filled with tuna, potato, onion, parsley, cheese, egg, and Mlawi – sandwich.

things to in Tunis for 3 days

After plenty of street food, you must feel full. But we cannot stop eating now, right? The best ice cream is sold in Parad’ice. How delicious sound the salted caramel, After Eight, crispy vanilla, and Ferrero Rocher? Without forgetting their wide selection of sorbets and toppings. Definitely worth trying. End the evening in The Cliff, a restaurant lounge located on the top of the cliff in La Marsa. Happens to be that, The Cliff has the broadest wine selection in Tunisia. Have a glass of wine and enjoy the stunning sunset and landscape.

Day 3 - 3 days in Tunis

Looking for a perfect start for the last day? Enjoy brunch in Frederic Cassel. Frederic Cassel is a multi-award-winning pastry chef from France. Besides France, they have also opened a restaurant lounge in Lac 2, Tunis. They serve breakfast, brunch, coffee, pastries, lunch, and dinner. (Note to yourself that selling alcohol isn’t allowed in Lac 2 area.)

The day will be spent in Sidi Bou Said, which is a must-visit place. Wander around cobblestoned streets and enjoy charming buildings painted in blue and white. At some point, you must run to a Bambalouni vendor. Tunisian donut Bambalouni is a traditional pastry sold in Sidi Bou Said and La Goulette. It’s a popular Tunisian sweet, and you shouldn’t skip it! Feeling hungry? La Villa Bleue is one of the best restaurants in this area. The restaurant is located in a five stars hotel with outstanding facilities and views. Even though the place is already worth visiting, they also have delicious food.

Let’s end this three-day tour with cocktails in Puro Exclusive Bar. Puro exclusive Bar offers a 5/5 experience. I promise you that you will leave with a smile on your face.

Nr. 2 itinerary - for culture-geek - 3 days in Tunis

This three days itinerary is filled with culture, art, museums, and history.

Day 1 - 3 days in Tunis

What would be a better place to start than the old antiquity city Carthage? Carthage, nowadays a suburb of the capital, is located by the Mediterranean Sea, 20 km from Tunis. It is one of the most historically significant places in Tunisia. It was built to control shipping between Sicily, Italy, and the North African Coast. Discover the ruins of Carthage, the Roman Amphitheater, the Antonine baths, L’acropolium, the Byrsa Hill, and the National Museum.

If that wasn’t enough culture and history for one day, the next destination is The National Bardo Museum. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Tunis. It has been listed in first place on Tripadvisors’ list of things to do in Tunis. The Bardo has an impressive collection of mosaics and sculptures. Important to note that the museum is now closed (May 2022). Keep an eye on their website to stay updated for the reopening.

Day 2 - 3 days in Tunis

On the second day, you will head to Old Medina, my favorite place in Tunis. Old Medina is a maze of ancient streets and a home to hundreds of souks (=small boutiques). Fill your bags with the most beautiful souvenirs: carpets, shoes, sweets, jewelry, ceramics, and clothing. Also, the famous Zaytuna Mosque is located here.

Still some time? Dar Bach Hamba is an old palace estimated to be built in the 17th century. It’s in the southern part of Medina, about 500 meters away from the city gate of Bab El Bhar. Dar Bach Hamba is one of the most beautiful palaces in Tunis. I highly recommend visiting Dar Bach Hamba. In addition, the palace is nowadays a cultural center organizing art exhibitions.

Day 3 - 3 days in Tunis

The third day starts with a visit to Sidi Bou Said, one of the most popular tourist attractions. Sidi Bou Said is a small town built on high ground, about 20 km from Tunis. It is famous for its buildings being painted in blue and white colors. In 1920 French painter and baron Rodolphe d’Erlanger decided to paint his palace in blue and white colors, and the rest of the village followed his example.

Are you interested in art? As this town is home to beautiful art galleries. Galeri A.Gorgi is a large and active art gallery focused on contemporary art located just in the heart of Sidi Bou Said. Another art gallery Selma Feriani Gallery was established in 2013 by gallerist Selma Feriani. Its artworks represent artists from the MENA region and also other international artists. The goal of the Selma Feriani Gallery is to support young artists and share their works with the public.

Nr. 3 itinerary - lets a party - 3 days in Tunis

Ready for partying and shopping? If yes, this itinerary is for you!

Day 1 - 3 days in Tunis

Looking for traditional Tunisian handcrafts? The Old Medina is a perfect place to get your luggage filled with beautiful handcrafts. Little souks are filled with colorful and outstanding products that attract entering inside. The Old Medina is the right place to look for carpets, poufs, pillow covers, leather goods, sandals, slippers, coffee and tea sets, ceramics, shisha, hammam towels, silver items, and jewelry.

three days in Tunisia plan

Have the first party in Le Carpe Diem. They offer live music, DJs, and a wide selection of cocktails and beverages. What else do you need to have a great party? They are open throughout the year. In the summertime, everything is organized outside, and in wintertime, parties are kept inside the building. They have put more effort into the outdoor decoration and atmosphere. But I must say that I have had one of the best parties in Le Carpe Diem during the wintertime. The inside facilities aren’t the most outstanding more like a traditional bar and club combination.

Day 2 - 3 days in Tunis

The next day starts in the charming town of Sidi Bou Said, another popular tourist attraction in Tunisia. As I mentioned above, it’s known for blue and white houses, cobblestoned streets, and small art galleries. This town isn’t filled with too many stores, but you will find little boutiques selling colorful ceramics, paintings, and rugs. I highly recommend visiting the homeware and furniture store Rock the Kasbah.

The famous Le café des delices is located by the seafront on the little cliff. Enjoy one of the most stunning sea views in Sidi Bou Said. Have a glass of mint tea with an amazing view.

Tangerine Rooftop cocktail bar is located in Gammarth. Like its playful name, the place is everything about pink-pastel tones, cute lightning, and cactuses. A perfect spot to end your second evening.

Cafes in Sidi Bou Said

Day 3 - 3 days in Tunis

Getting tired? Start the day with brunch in Gourmandise. Last-minute shopping in Azur City Mall, and have a last party at one of the bars or clubs in the favored bar area Zone Touristique, Gammarth.

Gourmandise is the leading company of traditional Tunisian pastries and sweets. Besides Traditional Tunisian pastries, they sell chocolates, jams, cold & hot bites, birthday and wedding cakes, and ice cream. So, many delicious things to try.

Azur City Mall is one of the newest and largest shopping centers in Tunisia. Located about 13km away from the Tunis city center. Azur City has more than 100 stores, restaurants, cafes, and a cinema with eight halls. I recommend choosing Azur City if you want to spend a day just shopping.

Area Zone Touristique is filled with different bars, lounges, and clubs. A perfect spot for one last party! Go to Zebra club, Club Gingembre, Yuka, Jobi, or Garrison.
